Join Us in Making a Difference: Our Continued Participation in the Alliance for Childhood Vaccination

We are thrilled to share some exciting news with you. Once again, we are proud to announce our participation in the Alliance for Childhood Vaccination, a remarkable initiative that has been striving to save the lives of millions of children who lack access to vaccines for the past 15 years. This alliance has been making a tremendous impact, preventing millions of future deaths by ensuring that children receive life-saving vaccinations.

The Alliance for Childhood Vaccination was established in 2000 as Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. It is an international organization that brings together public and private sectors to improve access to underutilized and new vaccines. Since its inception, Gavi has successfully vaccinated over 981 million children, preventing more than 16.2 million future deaths.

In 2008, the “la Caixa” Foundation became the first private partner of Gavi the Vaccine Alliance in Europe, forming the Alliance for Childhood Vaccination. Its aim is to provide the opportunity for businesses to join the fight against child mortality as part of their corporate social responsibility, for customers to participate through philanthropic initiatives, and for employees of the CaixaBank group to contribute. It also receives support from individuals who wish to help through micro-donations.

Thanks to the support of all donors, the annual commitment of the “la Caixa” Foundation to match all received donations, and the Matching Fund initiative by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which doubles the total contribution to Gavi, nearly 9 million children have been vaccinated, including 860,000 in 2022 alone. It is worth noting that since 2019, all funds donated to Gavi by the “la Caixa” Foundation, along with the Gavi Matching Fund from the Gates Foundation, have covered 100% of the total budget for pneumonia vaccines in Mozambique and 44% in Ethiopia.
